Are you truly Pro-Life or just Anti-Abortion?

Dear elected legislators and executives,

If you are really interested in preventing abortions, have you done these things for the people within your jurisdiction?

· Assured that everyone has free access to birth control information and health care, including pregnancy prevention devices and medications.

· Required that schools, both public and private, as a requirement of licensure, include in their curricula frank, accurate, age appropriate instruction in sex, relationships, respect for one’s own body and the bodies and choices of others, how babies are made, and how to prevent pregnancy.

· Funded complete and accessible obstetric health care during pregnancy and afterwards for mothers and pediatric health care for children.

· Created and funded programs to assure that every family has a minimum basic income and adequate housing that accounts for additional children in a family.

If you have not done these things — ALL of these things — you are not Pro-Life. You are merely Anti-Abortion. And you know as well as I do, that is simply not enough. To force a child to be brought into the world where they will suffer, their parents will suffer, their family will suffer, is not what you are called to do. You are called to make this world a better place. That includes making sure that everyone has enough to eat, meaningful work, a place to lay their head, and a home where they are loved.

If all you do is create laws to stop abortion and no more, you are not doing your job. You are just creating more misery. Do all of these things — and more — and maybe together we can create a world where abortion is not necessary.

Your constituent,

Ken Haller
