“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” — 1 Corinthians 13:11

As I head to bed

I let go of “American Exceptionalism.”

We are not

(As a people)

More

* Noble

* Evolved

* Compassionate

Than other peoples

Or nations

Or lands.

We are as ruled by

* Fear

* Pettiness

* Parochialism

As any other people

In any other land

In any other time.

I still hope that

In the coming

- Hours

- Days

- Weeks

Biden will win.

I had hoped for a blowout.

I will be content with a squeaker.

I will steel myself for a loss.

Whatever the outcome,

I will not let up.

I will not be complacent.

I will not stop fighting for justice.

I will accept that

My Fellow Americans

Are not special,

And that we are as

Broken and

Scared and

Wounded

As any other people since

The Dawn of Time.
